Maggie is Sick

Maggie has a cold or allergies or is having a horrible case of teething. I am not sure which one, but I have a feeling it isn't teething. Right before her bottom teeth showed up, she had a runny nose and some congestion, but she is pitiful right now. She woke up a couple of times during the night. All I could do was rock her until she finally fell back asleep again. We called the doctor yesterday to ask if there was anything we could give her. He said that we could give her a half of a teaspoon of Children's Benadryl every six hours. So, I gave her some this morning. It seemed to help slightly. She is a little drowsy from it, but at least she has a little bit of relief. Does anybody out in blog world have any remedies other than medicine? I am already giving her two baths a day, because she seems to enjoy that. Any suggestions are welcome.

Hi! You don't know me, but I stumbled onto your blog from another one (Cohen's I think. You know how that goes:)). Anyway, your baby is so cute, and I'm sorry to hear that she's sick. Something that's always worked for my kids is the Johnson and Johnson vaporizing baby lotion. Since she's 6 months old now, you should be able to use it on her, but you may want to check with your doctor first. Just rub it on her chest and it should help her breathe easier.
Oh, and if you want to check out my blog it's www.cmsmithportraits.com/blog. I also have a new family blog, but it's private. I'd be happy to email you an invite if you want it.

Hope she's feeling better soon!

Ash, thanks for your sweet comment, and I am so sorry to hear that Mags is sick!! When Lily was "sick" last (runny nose mostly) I steamed up the bathroom really good, and gave her a bath and that seemed to help her feel better - sounds like maggie may have it a little worse than lily did though...

hang in there, and keep us updated ok?

do you have a humidifier for her room? i used to run the cool mist humidifier in his room while he slept. also keep her good and suctioned out so she can breath better. and you can put something under her crib mattress to sort of create a wedge so she is sleeping with her head higher than the rest of her body. i've never tried it but i read about it.

Andrew recommends acupuncture and Tussin. :) In all honesty, a humidifier did the trick for us (we did give her some medicine, too). I've tried Children Benadryl D Allergy and Sinus (great stuff). It has both a decongestant and antihistamine. Try propping the head of her crib a few inches...Lila's all over the place in her crib so the incline trick doesn't work for us.
